Our pick of the best parties and events to attend during the Commonwealth Games
12 Apr 2018
With a few days still to go, the fact that the Gold Coast is hosting the Commonwealth Games is reason enough to get out and enjoy the good vibes and influx of visitors in town. But where to when? Don’t worry we have scoured the invites to bring you a Games edit, or where you need to be when to make the most of the festivities and celebrate like an athlete that has just nabbed a medal.
Nobody throws a party like Surfers Paradise and this April, Gold Coaster’s in the know will be at Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre enjoying Chevron Fest. The 13-day Gold Coast festival is family-friendly and will provide plenty of fun and entertainment with an exciting program of must-see installations.
In true local-style the event organisers have worked closely with Gold Coast event Buskers By The Creek to hand select a primo array of the Gold Coast’s best performers. Catch the captivating flamingo stilt walkers, marvel at the juggling pros and soak up the electric atmosphere filled with the sounds of live music and roaming street performers.
Verging on the Coast’s version of Carnival, festival-goers will have the chance to witness crazy trampolining acrobat James Lamont and wacky entertainer Mr Qwirk.
While you are in the Centre make the most of special retailer offers too. Chevron Fest runs daily until April 15.

While the Commonwealth Games is all about celebrating the athletes who have worked hard their entire careers to reach this exciting pinnacle, it is also a celebration of the Gold Coast and the amazing art and cultural undercurrent alive and well in our city. We know the Gold Coast to be a bit flashy so, we can expect one hell of a party from Festival 2018, the Commonwealth Games official celebrations.
There’s a bounty of Gold Coast-based events scheduled as part of Festival 2018 but we recommend high tailing it to either Broadbeach or Surfers Paradise once the sun has gone down for free live music concerts nightly for the duration of the Games.
While you are out and about in the city keep an eye out for Roo’d, giant bouncing kangaroo’s set to inundating the city, bouncing two metres into the air on their bouncing stilts. They are sure to be an interesting combination of terrifying and entertaining at the same time.
