5 Must-See Movies This Mother's Day

After you give Mum the perfect flowers, breakfast in bed or a lovely lunch, unwind and get cosy together with the perfect flick. Here, 5 Mother's Day movies you'll both enjoy.

Mothers Day

1. Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)

Guaranteed laughs and the frequent "go girl!" type of commentary, Bridget Jones's Diary is one flick you can count on for a good time. Bridget Jones (played by a charming Renée Zellweger) is British, quirky and ready to grab life by the balls...so to speak. This year, Bridget is looking for love, eager for a fresh start and ready for her best self yet - of course, you'll hear all about it in her trusting diary. Pass the popcorn and try to resist singing along to 'All By Myself' - we dare you.

Memorable quote

"I choose Vodka. And Chaka Khan."

2. The First Wives Club (1996)

Three friends Elise (Goldie Hawn), Annie (Diane Keaton) and Brenda (Bette Midler) reunite at the funeral of a college friend. Ready to get back at their husbands who left them for younger women, these three successful women join forces and let the games begin - and baby, it's time to get it all back. Getting older but feeling fabulous, together these three powerful ladies prove who's in control. Let this stellar cast take you for a rockin' ride in a comedy of trials and tribulations, love, loss and new beginnings.

Memorable quote

"Ladies, you have to be strong and independent, and remember, don't get mad, get everything."

3. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

After losing custody of his children to ex-wife Miranda (Sally Field), quirky unemployed actor Daniel Hilliard (Robin Williams) looks for a way to see his kids. Putting his talents of role play and impersonation to good use, Daniel dressed in drag becomes the one and only nanny, Mrs. Doubtfire. When Daniel lands the job as nanny Doubtfire to his kids, he learns more about them than ever before, and is determined to keep their mother's arrogant new boyfriend Stu (Pierce Brosnan) as far away as possible. Hilarious, heartfelt and certainly eccentric, Mrs. Doubtfire is one classic the whole family can enjoy, even Dad!

Memorable quote

"Look at this! My first day as a woman and I'm getting hot flashes."

4. Chocolat (2000)

Johnny Depp and filled with chocolate...need we say more? It's hard to imagine a time when eating chocolate was considered the sin of indulgence, but that's what makes this movie even tastier. Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche as a stunning single mother) moves with her daughter Anouk to a small French Village to open a chocolate shop near the local church. A brief yet unforgettable encounter with gypsy Roux (Johnny Depp) whose appetite is hard to please sparks a challenge and love interest for Vianne, while she also sets out to convince the town that chocolate is delicious. We're sold! Best enjoyed with a glass of red and clearly, chocolates (what we call love potions) are mandatory.

Memorable quote

"Ah, good morning. Can I interest you in some nipples of Venus?"

5. Stepmom (1998)

Prepare for tears, but enjoy the bittersweet rollercoaster. Jackie (an unbeatable performance by Susan Sarandon), full-time mother of two, is terminally ill with cancer and must face her ex-husband's new lover Isabel (Julia Roberts), a reputable photographer, to ensure her children are left with a loving stepmother when she passes. Isabel's career is most important to her, while Jackie's kids are her everything. The two meet within a dramatic tale of what it means to sacrifice and to accept during the darkest times. Definitely a tear-jerker, but without a doubt, this heartfelt movie is sure to make you appreciate the special mother in your life.

Memorable quote

"Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it isn't there."
